Connecting to Aimnet with Aimnet Ranger
Please use the following information to install and configure Aimnet Ranger on 
your personal computer.  Your username and password were faxed or given to you 
when you registered with Aimnet.  Aimnet's access numbers are included with this
document.

If you have already installed some other type of Internet software onto your system, go to the Windows directory and comment out or delete the "TCP/IP session" from the win.ini file, and delete any winsock.dll files in the directory as well.

With Windows 95, Aimnet Ranger takes full advantage of the built-in TCP/IP stacks for your modem or network connections.

=====Installation for Windows 3.1
Put the Aimnet Ranger diskette in the A: or B: drive.  
In the Program Manger, click on File/Run.
Type a:\setup (or b:\setup.)  Click OK.
After Ranger has installed itself, click on the Setup icon in the Ranger program group.
Enter your username.
Enter your password.
Select the correct COM port for your modem (the default is port 2.)
Select the correct Baud Rate (38400 is the default.)
Click on the Phonebook button and choose the correct phone number for your area.
Click OK.
Click on the Advanced button.
Choose your modem type.
The Local Address for connecting to Aimnet is 1.1.1.1 (default.)
The Remote Address for connecting to Aimnet is 1.1.1.1 (default.)
The Domain Name is iway.aimnet.com (default.)
Click on the OK button to return you to the Setup Window.
Click on the OK button to close the Setup Window.
Click on the Ranger icon to open the Ranger Window.
Click on any application to connect to Aimnet.

=====Installation for Windows 95  
Please follow the Setting up Windows 95 for Aimnet page before installing Aimnet Ranger.
Put the Aimnet Ranger diskette in the A: or B: drive.
Click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.
Click on the A: or B: drive icon.
Click on the Setup icon.

=====Preparing to connect to Aimnet
Hosts Configuration
Aimnet Ranger is pre-configured with aimnet.com set as the default host.  To add other hosts:
Click on the New button.  The New Host windows appears.
Enter the full host name.
Enter the correct IP address for the new host.
Enter an "alias" for it.
Click OK.

Mail Configuration

Click on the Mail Configuration icon.
Click on New User.
Enter your username.
Enter your password.
Choose the appropriate mail server. 
Click OK.
In the User dialog box, enter the username, the password, and the Mail Server.   For connecting to Aimnet, this information will be filled in for you.  All you need to enter is your username and password.  NOTE: for security, the password never displays on the screen. Instead, asterisks appear.
In the User dialog box, click on OK. The dialog box closes.
Click on OK to exit the Mail Configuration window.

FTP Configuration
Click on the FTP Configuration icon.
Enter your username.
Enter your complete e-mail address.  This is usually username@aimnet.com
Click on OK.

Telnet Configuration
Click on the Telnet Configuration icon.
Enter the complete hostname that will be set as the default host name.
Click on OK.

Browser Configuration
Aimnet Ranger allows you to configure your favorite WWW browser to it.
Click on the WWW Browser Configuration icon.
Type in the full path name of where your browser is located on your hard drive.
Click on OK.

Newsreader Configuration
Aimnet Ranger is pre-configured to connect to the Aimnet mail and news servers.  To change these:
Enter the correct name for the newserver at the remote host.
Click on the Tab key.
Enter the correct name for the mailserver at the remote host.
Click on OK.

=====Connecting with Aimnet Ranger
Windows 3.1
Refer to the Signon Procedures above.
Click on the Ranger icon in the Ranger Group Window.
Click on the File option on the menu bar and drag it down to open.
Choose aimnet.cfg from the menu.
Choose the appropriate Aimnet dial-up number for your calling area from the window at the bottom of the screen.
Click on the Connect option of the File menu bar.
Once connected, NEWT should appear at the bottom of your screen, then minimize the window.
Click on the Ranger icon.
Click on any application icon to begin working with it.

=====Windows 95
Click on the appropriate Dial-up Networking connection icon in the networking folder and connect to Aimnet.  Once connected, click on the Ranger icon in the Ranger window.
Once connected, minimize the dial-up connection window.
Click on the Ranger icon.
Click on any application icon to begin working with it.
