Subject: WinFax PRO 4.0 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11

Situation:
==========
You experience the following problems when using WinFax PRO 4.0 with Windows
for Workgroups 3.11:

     - fax transmissions are not sent at the optimal speed
     -  failed fax events
     - WinFax is unable to communicate with the modem.

Solution:
=========
Unlike previous versions of Windows 3.X and Windows for Workgroups 3.1,
Windows for Workgroups 3.11 uses a new and different internal architecture for
dealing with communications ports. It is important that the proper settings
are inserted into your Windows SYSTEM.INI file. Use a Windows text editor,
such as Notepad or SYSEDIT, to make the necessary changes to your SYSTEM.INI
file.

1. In the [Boot] section of the SYSTEM.INI file, look for a line that begins
    with COMM.DRV=. The whole line should look like this:

         COMM.DRV=COMM.DRV

    If the line in your SYSTEM.INI does not match the above line, change it
    accordingly.

2. Make sure you have the following lines in the [386 Enh] section of your
    SYSTEM.INI file:

         COMBOOSTTIME=30
         COMxBUFFER=8192
         COMxPROTOCOL=XOFF
         COMxFIFO=2
         COMxTXFIFO=1
         COMxRXTRIGGER=8

    Note: Substitute the "x" references above with the number of the
           communications port where your modem is located.

3. Check that you have the latest version of a driver called SERIAL.386. Use
    File Manager to locate this file in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ sub-directory.
    If the date for this file is earlier than 2-17-94, then obtain the latest
    version of the SERIAL.386 driver from Microsoft.

    You can download a self-extracting file called WG1001.EXE, which is
    available from the Microsoft Bulletin Board System. This file contains the
    driver and instructions on how it should be installed.

4. Once these changes have been made, re-start Windows for them to take
    effect.
