INSTALLATION
------------

The instructions given here are for installing an MCI videodisc driver under
Windows 3.1. Alternatively, you may wish to consult your Microsoft Windows
User's Guide for this information.

Copy all of the files onto a floppy disk, place the disk in drive A:, start
Windows, and Run the Control Panel program in the Main program group. When
the Control Panel window appears, double click the Drivers icon. A list of
all drivers activated for use with Windows will appear. If there are any MCI
drivers for videodisc players in this list, remove them now. If you remove
drivers, a dialog box will appear asking if you want to restart the system.
It is not necessary to restart the system.

When no MCI videodisc drivers remain in the list on the screen, click the Add
button to add a new driver. A list of available drivers will appear. Select
Unlisted or Updated Driver from this list and click on the OK button. Next, a
dialog box will appear asking you for the location of the driver files. Type
A:\ in this box. Click the OK button after this. Next, a list of all the
Laserlink for Windows drivers will appear. Select the driver you want from
this list and click on the OK button. A dialog box may appear informing you
that the selected driver is present on the system and asking you if it should
be replaced by the new driver that you selected. Always click on the New
button in this case so that the most current version of the driver gets
installed.

Next, a dialog box will appear asking you which communications port and baud
rate to use. The available choices are COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, and 1200,
2400, 4800, and 9600 baud. Select the port and baud rate and click on the OK
button. You can change these values later as described below. Finally, click
on the Close button to close the drivers window. A Laserlink driver is now
activated for use on your system.

CONFIGURATION
-------------

To change the communications port and/or baud rate used by a driver after it
has been installed and activated, double click the Control Panel icon in the
Main program group. When the Control Panel window appears, double click the
Drivers icon. When the list of activated drivers appears, select the driver
you want to configure from this list by clicking on its name. Now click the
Setup button. A dialog box will appear which allows you to change the
communications port and/or baud rate for the driver.

SHAREWARE VERSION LIMITATIONS
-----------------------------

When the videodisc device is opened, a dialog box appears with information
about registering your copy of the shareware version. This dialog remains for
five seconds after the OK button is pressed. If you do register, you will
receive a non-shareware version of the software that does not contain this
dialog. Some Windows applications use multimedia devices without opening and
closing them; the term for this is an auto-opened device. The shareware
version of this software will work as an auto-opened device, however the
registration dialog will appear when every videodisc command is sent, because
the device is opened automatically for each command in this case. (Most
applications will only display the registration dialog once because the most
common way of using the videodisc is to open the device when the application
starts, send commands, and then close it when the application terminates.)

Aside from the registration dialog, the shareware version does not contain any
other special limitations. Please register your copy.
