WELCOME TO COMPUFOIL PROFSSIONAL. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TO GAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THIS UNIQUE AND POWERFUL PROGRAM. DOS VERSION USERS OF COMPUFOIL WILL LOVE THE NEW FEATURES. NEW USERS WILL WONDER HOW THEY EVER DID WITHOUT! COMPUFOIL IS CURRENTLY IN USE BY OVER 600 DEMANDING MODELERS, SEVERAL MAJOR MODEL MANUFACTURERS, N.A.S.A., AND SEVERAL UNIVERSITIES AND SCHOOLS.

ABOUT THIS CompuFoil Professional for Windows(R) DEMO:
***************************************************************************
CompuFoil Professional is the most powerful airfoil plotting and editing software available. It can with minimal effort produce full sets of ribs in straight taper, elliptical, or modified elliptical planforms for built up wings, or templates for foam wings. This includes sheeting compensation, wire kerf compensation, leading edges, v-notches, building jig holes, spar slots, etc.

A note about installing and uninstallting the demo. To install the demo, simply run the SETUP.EXE program. You will be given the opportunity to adjust the destination path. When removing the program from your computer, the only file fragment that will go outside of the installed subdirectory is a CFWIN.INI file in the Windows subdirectory. A file called CTL3DV2.DLL will also be installed in your Windows/System directory if the file is not already there and in use. You should leave this file there, as it is a system file often used by many programs. The icons and CompuFoil group which will be produced can also be deleted by simply highlighting them and pressing the delete key.

CompuFoil professional is a commercial product. It first became commercially available as CompuFoil in 1992. In 1993 CompuFoil Plus and CompuFoil Professional were released. CompuFoil Professional for Windows was commercially released November of 1995. This demo version is freely distributable. It must be distributed along with this README.TXT file, the Windows help file CFWIN.HLP, the 6 digit NACA generator data file 6SERIES.DAT, and all sample airfoil files.

This demo is fully functional for the most part. Some operations have been suppressed such as coordinate file saves. This demo will print, but will only produce one size print. However, using the Print Preview, will allow you to see the actual printed page as the full version would print. Once you produce a hardcopy print, your chord length will automatically be set to 14".

Unlike the DOS version, CompuFoil for Windows is price structure is feature based. In other words, you can purchase only those features that you need. This allows the modeller who only needs to do simple airfoil plotting, to purchase only the base program for much less cost than the full blown version. However, just because he didn't buy all the other features that CompuFoil has to offer, doesn't mean he's out in the cold if later he needs, say the modification utilities. No matter which features you purchase initially, the program still contains all of the unpurchased functions. They are only in Demo form. You can use the unpurchase features to try them out, but will need to execute a File/New command in order to regain printing and saving capabilities. The user will receive a unique serial number after payment which can be entered into the Utilites/Upgrade features window. Once entered, the purchased feature will be out of demo mode and fully useable. Post purchase feature upgrade should include a $3.00 processing fee. The following is the price of CompuFoil and it's function modules:

-Base CompuFoil program :$35.00 - Allows for printing of single foam or rib templates. This includes sheeting and wire kerf compensation, full foam template structure (ramps, washoutable base angle), leading edges, leading edge v-notch. The items listed below are not available in non-demo form in this simple configuration.

-Modificatin Module: $12.00 - This package consists of three powerful items: The Full Screen editor - CompuFoil's built in CAD utility. Move individual coordinate nodes, curve fit new nodes, split lines, delete nodes, etc., All of the Modify menu items, (modify thickness, camber, mirror, move max thick location, etc..), and overlays. Ever wonder how that show stopper airfoil is different from your favorite, or how close is your unique design to some of the many popular airfoils? CompuFoil allows you to overlay up to three different airfoils at once, with zoom capabilies and even allows you to edit your airfoil at the same time!

-Generate Module: $15.00 - This package is the lofting function of CompuFoil. You can loft full sets of ribs, an individual rib or foam template, or a three part set consisting of a root and tip foam template and a subrib for your joiner rod carrier. These can be lofted in a straight taper, elliptical, or modified elliptical planform! Furthermore, CompuFoil will also calculate the surface area, projected area, volumes, and automatically handle tip washout as well. Washout will automatically set the foam template base angle or jig hole angles in the case full set of rib loftings.

-Jig Holes/Spar Slots: $10.00 - This package allows you to define template reference holes for either building jigs, or alignment rod/joiner tube placement, (or whatever else you want to use them for). Entered washout will automatically set joiner tube holes at the correct angle. Spar slots allow you to position full depth spars, or stringer notches on your template in six different manners. If you're lofting ribs, CompuFoil can also automatically place tapered spars as well (both in thickness and width!).

-.DXF output: $10.00 - Need to get those airfoils into your favorite CAD program? Let CompuFoil make a standard .DXF file of your creation, then load them into your CAD package. Check to be sure your CAD program supports importing of .DXF files.

- N.A.C.A. Generator: $18.00 - This easy to use airfoil generator can produce four, five or six digit N.A.C.A. airfoils. Just click on the radio buttons and select the thickness. It coulnd't be easier! Several thousand combinations are possible.

In addition to the above available functions, and airfoil library is also available with 240 airfoils to choose from. These include sailplane, power, slope, free flight, and flying wing type: $13.00

The Windows version has several advantages over the DOS version, including
a constant visual display of your template. It it very similar in
function to the DOS version, so you CompuFoil Professional users should
find getting around second nature. The following is a list of some of
the keystrokes which may not initially be obvious:

1. When in browse mode (click on the eyeball), pressing the up/down cursor keys will page through the airfoils. Pressing the enter key will load the currently displayed airfoil. Pressing the icon again will put you out of browse mode.

2. When in the Full Screen Editor (click on the square crosshair icon or select from the View menu), if you select a function, such as Line Split, your cursor shape will change awaiting for you to select a line. If you press the right mouse button, you can cancel the action. Note that while your cursor is modified, you cannot access any of the menu items. If you press the right button again after having completed an operation, that operation will be automatically re-invoked.

3. If you have a leading edge V-Notch, and you are in the FSE, when you select the V-Notch stock placement function, the cursor keys will shift the stock around, and the < and > keys will rotate the square stock. Reselect the V-Notch stock placement button on the floating tool bar to exit this function.
