[WinSite] Contributing to the WinSite Archive [WinSite]

How to upload a file to WinSite

First, you have to get the correct template file. ALL submissions to the WinSite Windows Archive must be accompanied by the correct template file, with the proper fields filled in. Submissions that do not include a correctly filled out template will be immediately deleted. The system uploads.winsite.com is set up to accept submissions to the Archive. On that machine, the file /uploads/README has all the information you need to upload your software. In each of the uploads areas on the host uploads.winsite.com there is an associated template file.

Which template file should you use?

All files should be uploaded using the ftp protocol to the host uploads.winsite.com.

Some developers are bundling Win3, Win32s, Win95, and WinNT executables into one archive. Please upload such archives only ONCE, using the guidelines above. We will put copies of your program into each appropriate area (win3, win95, winnt) if you correctly fill out the template and upload your archive to the correct area.

The instructions for filling in the template are contained in the file itself. Please download a copy of the correct template file for more details on submitting software.

If you wish to make announcements to the Internet community that a file has been uploaded here, please post to comp.os.ms-windows.announce.

Also, please note that there is some latency between the time the file arrives in our "uploads" directory and the time the file is actually moved to its final resting place in our directory structure.

Lastly, and most importantly, files placed in the "uploads" directory without a properly filled-in template file, will be removed.

When using ftp to upload to the WinSite Archive remember to type binary first.

To which server should I upload my package?

All packages are uploaded to the host uploads.winsite.com.

A word about shareware...

Much of the software available for downloading from this archive is "shareware." Shareware requires a payment to the author if found useful. Shareware IS copyrighted software that is freely distributable with the author's specific expressed permission and conditions.

Some shareware systems are produced by members of the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP). The authors of these systems have promised to meet the Association's standard of program quality and customer support.

ASP wants to make sure that the shareware principle works for you. If you are unable to resolve a shareware related problem with an ASP member by contacting the member directly, ASP may be able to help. The ASP Ombudsman can help you resolve a dispute or problem with an ASP member, but does not provide technical support for members' products. Please write to the ASP Ombudsman at 545 Grover Road, Muskegon, MI USA 49442-9427, FAX 616-788-2765, or send a Compuserve mail message to ASP Ombudsman 70007,3536.

What if there are problems?

If you have problems uploading to our site you can do one of two things:

Thank You!

From all of us here at WinSite THANK YOU very much for your contribution to the Archive and welcome your questions and comments in our pursuit to make WinSite the Planet's Best Archive. Send questions and comments to archivist@winsite.com
